F/X has done me dirty, real dirty. I eagerly watched the show Black/White with the expectation of watching two families switch their respective races via the magic of make-up, and then undergo the trials and little life lessons that one might expect. I was not disappointed. I laughed, I got angry, I sympathized. I really liked the show. I really liked certain characters, especially Rose. Rose is the daughter in the white family. To me Rose was an indication that this generation is the beginning of something special with regard to our racial identities, how we interact, and the development of understanding and respect. I know, I know, it seems silly for me to be angry by this, and I'm not really, just irked. It never would have mattered except that the subject matter was race, and this is an issue that is important to me. Something could have really been done here. Things could have really been learned, real interactions could have occured and lessons learned and the experiences lived through could have been imparted to a huge audience through the magic of TV and all that blah blah...and there was, except it was all stage directed, lighted and scripted, and it didn't teach us anything...well maybe it taught me not to be so damn naive.
